The Perfect Gas

These calculations run in your web browser, using embedded Javascripts; which means that you must set your browser to allow Javascripts .

The calculator below computes the mass or volume or pressure or temperature of a perfect gas in SI (metric) units, depending on the users choice.

Step-by-step:

  1. Select a gas by clicking a button. The gas constant R will be shown.
  2. Select what property you want to calculate by clicking a button. The value of that property will automatically reset to zero.
  3. Enter credible values for all other properties, but leave the unkown property at zero..
  4. Click the Calculate button.

Notes:

  • Take care when treating steam as a perfect gas.
  • Input T in degrees C
  • Pressure in kPa
  • When you select your option, its value will be zeroed until you click 'calculate'.
  • R is automatically filled in when gas is selected (kJ / Kg / K) but may be manually changed to any reasonable value.
  • Cp calcs are based on gas selected, using curvefit equations.
  • Due to round-off error in the javascript, you will get slightly different answers on your calculator.
